Silver Bell #1
B&D Guitar Banjo

© Frank Ford, 2000; Photos by FF

Here's one of the best sounding guitar banjos I've seen. It's a Bacon and Day Silver Bell, so it has about as solid a pedigee as any banjo from the late 1920s. Interesting, though, because it has a large (11-1/2") head combined with a rather short scale (about 24").

This particular instrument has been recently fitted up for modern playing, with new tuning pegs, and a tailpiece I don't recognize.
