Gryphon Guitar
© Frank Ford, 1999; Photos by FF
When Richard Johnston and I were building the Gryphon guitars, our "message"
was a simple one. We tried to recreate some of the features that Martin had discontinued
in their standard instruments. This guitar is a good example of that thinking, with
its long scale, Brazilian rosewood back & sides, and scalloped braces. We included
some of our own touches with the inlay design, but basically this is a Martin "OM"
style guitar. At the time we made it, Martin had gone 35 years without producing
the OM, and had no plans to reissue anything at all.

This guitar has a German spruce top, as did all the Gryphon instruments. |
